Gas pipelines and pipeline markers are shaped by the dynamics of extractivism; a gas-based system rooted in geological and environmental destruction and exploitation, perpetuated by major global markets. This work is based on research that explores a network of various points of conflict.
Large-scale processes of extraction and export of raw materials lead to the dispossession of territories and violate the rights of affected communities. Issues of global subordination, deterritorialization, and rights violations arise.
From an affective perspective, I approach these objects laden with conflict and destruction, intertwining and embracing, revealing, hinting at, and concealing. Set within a temporal framework that transcends human experience, this project challenges the notion of gas as a necessary material and, instead, confronts the variety of conflicts it generates.
