Installation at Sala Carbó and Sala 205-2 Barcelona
This contentious network of pipes and markers of gas pipelines draws inspiration from the dynamics of extractivism, understood as an expression of the capitalist-colonial-patriarchal system, addressing the gas system as a geological, environmental, and exploitative destruction perpetuated by major global markets. Through accumulation within theoretical and practical parameters, the work navigates a network of various conflict hotspots in our contemporary world.
The process of large-scale extraction and exportation of raw materials entails rapid dispossession of territory and the rights of affected communities. Issues of global subordination, deterritorialization, and rights violations emerge. These practices manifest as late- stage consequences of what we now perceive as an environmental catastrophe, sometimes referred to as the Anthropocene, due to human impact on the planet.
Through an affective procedure, I approach these objects laden with conflict and destruction, channeling the negative charge produced by this system. In this case, I have chosen to intertwine and extract gas pipelines and tapes from their natural spaces to critically interrogate the existing conflict produced by gas. Seeking to make visible the invisible, both the physical narratives inherent in gas and its contentious consequences. A play between visible and invisible, revealed and concealed, leaving the interpretation of the system’s issues open. This approach challenges the notion of gas as a necessary material, instead confronting the array of conflicts it generates.
The installation suggests tension and a play of elements communicating and conflicting with each other, placing us in a temporal framework that exceeds human experience
